Structure and Content of Programme

CPDadvantage is one of eight providers accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland to deliver programmes leading to Chartered Teacher status. Successful completion of the programme leads to the Master Professional Practitioner Award for Chartered Teachers in Scotland and Chartered Teacher status.

The CPDadvantage programme offers:

  • a practical and workbased route to CT status, in which teachers focus on their own classroom teaching, learning and assessment activities
  • a flexible programme - to suit a wide range of professional/personal circumstances
  • a responsive tuition and support structure - to allow individual teachers to maximise the benefits of their development/learning time
  • opportunities for teachers to gain credit for other CPD and development activities through accreditation for prior learning (APL) and workbased projects

Programme Elements:

The programme includes

  • four core/mandatory modules
  • a range of option modules
(from which you must select four)
  • two double or one quadruple work based project(s)

Up to 6 modules credits may be gained through accreditation of prior learning (APL)

Core (all mandatory):

  • Professional Development:
    Review, Reflection and Planning
  • Learning and Teaching
  • Education for All
  • Working Together

Options (choose 4):

  • Using ICT and Multimedia to Enhance Learning
  • Core Skills Learning
  • Classroom Communication
  • Personal Guidance
  • Curricular and Vocational Guidance
  • Education for Work and Enterprise (Double module)
  • Science in Primary Schools
  • Principles and Practice of Assessment

Accreditation for Prior Learning

Credit can be given for up to the equivalent of 6 modules within the programme, either for the accreditation of prior learning (APL) - against programme module outcomes - or through ‘negotiated learning’ set against the requirements of the Standard for Chartered Teacher.

A Workbased Project

The final element of the programme is a workbased project(s) – either one project at a credit value of four modules or two projects each of a credit value of two modules. This element must be based on project activities undertaken in your own classroom/professional situation.

Fast track options

There is a ‘fast track’ option for those who participate in CPDadvantage training programmes and use the multimedia materials.
